Venus

Everything have I surrendered unto thee

Wherefore, then, hath she left me all alone?

Yet once we laughed, when all was merry,

And by her smile my heart was made her own.

Whither thou goest, let me follow near;

Whence came the doubts that cloud thy mind?

Thou callest to the gods in solemn prayer,

Though truest love was offered thee to find.

To shew my devotion, bitterly I cried,

Yet by her hand a thousand times I died.

O fair Venus, return unto my embrace!

Honor my plea, and grant thy saving grace.

In frozen solitude my spirit lies,

Unseen sorrow masking weary eyes;

Yet rest assured, though worlds fall into night,

Our souls shall bind in eternal light.
